A natural, retro look
The Adirondack Salamanca armchairs are perfect for adding a retro touch to your terrace. This armchair is clever. The independent footrest means you can turn one of the armchairs into a chaise longue. Simply place it against the seat of an armchair. The footrest can also be used as a coffee table. The chairs are made from eucalyptus. This exotic hardwood is ideal for outdoor use. It comes from-certified plantations in Uruguay. The wood is coated with a tinted oil to give it extra protection and a shade as close as possible to raw eucalyptus.
Maintenance details
These garden armchairs are coated with a tinted oil during manufacture. The impregnation of the oil varies according to the wood species. A small residue may remain. Be sure to remove this with a cloth before using for the first time. You don't need to put oil on your new garden features, you can wait until the end of summer.
Eucalyptus is a living material. As a result, its appearance changes over time and a few cracks appear. This is normal and is what gives hardwood its much-loved authentic charm. Although robust and weather-resistant, Eucalyptus requires a little maintenance to prolong its life.
On a daily basis, remove leaves, standing water and dust. Wash stains and food residue with soapy water and a sponge. If your table is very dirty, you can use a small stiff brush.
In spring and late summer, clean your garden furniture thoroughly and leave it to dry. Once the woodwork is completely dry, apply a thin coat of oil. Be careful, make sure it doesn't rain for 24 hours after applying the oil.
If your eucalyptus armchair has been exposed to a lot of rain, you may notice that the surface fibres have swollen a little and the whole thing feels rougher to the touch. To remedy this, lightly sand the surface with fine-grit sandpaper until it feels smooth again. Once you've finished sanding, apply a coat of oil to restore the garden chair to its original colour.
The coat of oil is what preserves the garden furniture from stains and what allows it to cope with pollution, weather and mould. If you choose to let your eucalyptus furniture age, without applying the oil twice a year, it will take on a pretty silver colour. However, it will no longer be protected.
Precautions
- It's important to winterise your eucalyptus garden furniture. Store it away from moisture in a cool, airy place. If you protect it with a cover, prefer polyester ones to PVC ones.
- Don't put your garden furniture in contact with direct heat or too much heat.
- Don't leave a damp sponge on the table top for too long, it makes it rough to the touch.
