Ah, adolescence – that time when our dear teenagers set out to find their own style, and this extends to the décor and layout of their bedroom. What’s important? Clearly defining the different areas: the sleeping area for a good night’s sleep, the study area with a desk for homework, and a space they can arrange according to their current interests. It’s well known that teenagers love putting things up on the walls. To avoid ending up with a jumble of film and band posters, why not help your young adult with their wall décor by suggesting some attractive frames and posters? Neon lighting is also on trend – it’s fun and original.
An original wallpaper
For a more original look, go for wallpaper with striking patterns and vibrant colours. Cover just one wall in the bedroom – such as the wall behind the bed, for example – so that it doesn’t overwhelm the room.
Vibrant colours
Bright, vibrant colours are all the rage right now. To avoid an overload of colour, opt for a few colourful decorative items to liven up your teenager’s bedroom. You could also have a bit of fun with the bed linen, as shown here, by adding some trendy striped cushions and a pretty, colourful throw.
PRACTICAL AND STYLISH FURNITURE
The bed
Teenagers love spending time on their beds, whether it’s for sleeping, playing video games or studying. The bed is the centrepiece of their bedroom. Don’t hesitate to choose a bed with storage, such as a bed with a built-in storage compartment where they can store clothes or school supplies. If there’s a bit of a space shortage in their bedroom, a bund bed could be a good solution to free up space. You can then fit a desk or a storage unit underneath the high bed.
The desk
With all that homework to hand in and all those lessons to learn, your teenager is going to need a proper desk with a large work surface and drawers to keep their things tidy. Do also think about buying them a suitable, comfortable desk chair so they don’t end up with a sore back after spending an hour working.
The wardrobe
Whether they’re a fashionista or not, style is important to your teenager! A stylish and practical wardrobe will help them tidy and organise their belongings with ease. Choose a piece of furniture with a hanging rail – it’ll be more practical for storing their blouses and shirts, and for picking out their clothes in a flash in the morning. They’ll never complain about having nothing to wear again!
